What to Do Immediately After a Car Accident in Lebanon

A calm, step-by-step guide for the first hour after a motor accident — so the evidence and information you'll need for your claim are there when you need them.

1. Check for injuries and get everyone to safety first

Before anything else, check whether anyone is hurt. If someone needs medical attention, call the Lebanese Red Cross at 140 right away. If the vehicles are blocking traffic and it's safe to do so, move them to the side of the road — but only after taking photos of their original position (see step 3).

2. Call the police for a report

For anything beyond a very minor scrape, it's standard practice in Lebanon to call the Internal Security Forces at 112 and have an officer attend the scene. An official police report is usually the document insurers rely on most when assessing a motor claim, especially if there's a dispute over fault or injury involved — it's worth the wait to have one.

3. Document everything before it changes

Use your phone to photograph or film:

The vehicles' positions

Wide shots showing both cars as they came to rest, plus the road, any skid marks, and traffic signs or signals nearby.

The damage, close up

Every point of contact and damage on both vehicles, from a few angles each.

The license plates

Yours, the other driver's, and any other vehicles involved.

The other driver's documents

Their license, registration (mulkiyeh), and insurance card if they have it on hand.

4. Exchange information

Get the other driver's full name, phone number, license plate number, and their insurance company's name if they know it. If there are witnesses, ask for their contact details too — an independent account can matter if the other driver's version of events changes later.

5. Call your broker before you agree to anything

Once everyone is safe and the scene is documented, call us at +961 1 482 888 before you sign anything or agree to a settlement with the other driver directly. We'll tell you what your policy covers, what documents you'll need, and walk you through starting the claim with the right insurer — see our full list of insurer claims numbers if you'd rather contact them directly.

6. Keep everything together

Hold on to the police report, your photos, any repair estimates, and copies of anything you send to the insurer. Claims move faster when the file is complete from the start.

This guide is general information, not legal advice — what your policy actually covers depends on its specific terms and the circumstances of your accident. For help with your own claim, contact us directly.
